On Systemic Racism & Justice

It has been two weeks since the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers, and all of us at ERPi are stricken with grief and continued outrage over his death. It is hard to comprehend this callous disregard for human life, especially when it follows several weeks of similarly disturbing deaths: Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and countless more. Mr. Floyd’s death was horrific and has served as the catalyst for awareness, dialogue and action – all of which are long overdue. The injustice that has plagued the Black community is unacceptable.

As a company who starts our day by serving others, it is imperative that we come together to listen to each other and offer support where it is needed most. We recognize that George Floyd should not have been the tipping point for our country – he and every other victim has suffered from deep-seated racism as well as the inaction of those who could use their voice to make a difference and chose to be silent. ERPi recognizes these injustices and chooses to be an ally, not only when it is convenient; our values demand more from us. This can start with ensuring that the murderers of Mr. Floyd, Mr. Arbery, Ms. Taylor, and Mr. McDade are all arrested, and that charges brought against them.

However, this is only the beginning. As a firm, ERPi is committed to taking time to learn, listen, and grow. We are intentionally and actively seeking ways to better ourselves, recommit our company to values of antiracism and respect, and build our community to its fullest potential. In the past several years, ERPi has taken steps to cultivate a diverse and inclusive environment through improved benefits, a variety of workshops and programs, and addressing implicit and systemic biases in traditional hiring and promotion practices. We recognize, though, that there is more for us to do.

Dismantling systems of oppression and pursuing a future that is just and fair requires action, energy, and for every voice to speak out. We choose to add our voice to the millions that have come before us and to those that lead this movement now in demanding justice, accountability, and a world that believes #BlackLivesMatter. We hope you join us on the journey to a better, more just future.
